Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon the leaders and workers of Bangladesh Awami Jubo League to work as vanguards to protect democracy and also remain alert so that none can play ducks and drakes with the fate of the people. "Bangladesh Awami Jubo League has a glorious past as its leaders and workers played a pioneering role in the country's all movements and struggles. So every leader and worker of the organisation will have to work as vanguards to protect hard- earned democracy and remain alert so that none can play game with the fate of the people," she said. The Prime Minister yesterdaysaid this while addressing as the chief guest at the sixth National Conference of Jubo League at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre here.

Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Bangladesh Awami League, said the continuation of the country's democracy was disrupted time and again and her party restored democracy, voting and constitutional rights of the people by shedding blood. She also urged the leaders and workers of Jubo League to work with sacrificing mindset and love the country and its people. "You will have to keep in mind that what we have given to the people, not what we have got," she said.

The Prime Minister advised the Jubo League leaders and workers to earn confidence of the people through work as she said any leadership could give nothing to a nation without achieving the trust and confidence of the people.

In this connection, she asked them to take lesson from Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and read his Unfinished Autobiography which was published recently.

Sheikh Hasina expressed the hope that Jubo League would be able to retain its glory as a disciplined organisation like the past and lead the nation by flourishing its leadership.

Sheikh Hasina said the aim of her government is to make hard- earned independence meaningful by reaching its benefits to the people and the government is working tirelessly to this end.

"Awami League always works for the welfare of the people and all achievements the country made since independence under the leadership of the party. The party fulfilled hopes and aspirations of the people and never displeased and disheartened them," she said

Referring to the unbridled corruption by the BNP-Jamaat alliance government, she said that the opposition leader and her family members had indulged in corruption and siphoned off money abroad. "Even Khaleda Zia, being a former Prime Minister, whitened black money paying fine."

The Prime Minister said that the BNP-Jamaat alliance does not believe in the country's independence and they ruined the country through terrorism, militancy and corruption.

"Foreign assistance in power and communication sectors was stopped during their rule for their unbridled corruption," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said the country was turned into a safe haven for terrorists and militants like Bangla Bhai due to patronisation of the BNP-Jamaal alliance government.

She said the opposition parties are now hatching conspiracies to impede the trial of war criminals as they do not want the trial of the 1971 culprits.

Terming the youths as the main driving force and future leaders of the nation, the Prime Minister said her government has created jobs for 75 lakh youths including 4.50 lakh in the public sector.

She said her government has established Employment Bank so that the youths could become self-reliant by taking loans from the bank. "We have also taken One House, One Farm project for socioeconomic development of the people, especially youths" she said.

Highlighting various successes and achievements the country made during the tenure of the present government, Sheikh Hasina said "when Awami League comes to power, satisfaction and peace persists in the minds of the people. On the other hand, when BNP goes to power, flames of unrest prevail in the minds of the people."

The Prime Minister said her government has already fulfilled almost all pledges given to the people before the elections. "We have worked more than the commitments," she said.

She also directed the leaders and activists of Awami Jubo League to highlight the government successes before the people as well as strengthen the organisation as she said no ideology could be executed without strengthening the organisation.

"Terrorism and militancy could not be allowed to establish Bangladesh as a peaceful nation in South Asia," she said.

With Jubo League Chairman Alhaj Omar Faruq Chowdhury in the chair, the inaugural function of the conference was also addressed by AL Advisory Council Member Amir Hossain Amu, Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, General Secretary and LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Joint General Secretary and State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Jubo League General Secretary Mirza Azam, MP.

Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated the conference of the organisation by hoisting national flag and releasing pigeons and balloons.

We notice with great dissatisfaction when BNP, Secretary, Mirzafaki, acting, talk about IMAGE of Awami League and Govt. on the eve of cancellation in funding on Padma Bridge by World Bank! I am not sure about his education background, it could be very gloomy like his Party Chief Ms. Khaleda, they all needs to be educated about “IMAGE”, “BRANDING” and “PERCEPTION” ! Many of the anti-Awami League elements and mostly BNP Jamate jote associates are taking the advantage of Govt, extreme moderate views on country’s media & propagation and many are crossing the limit which liable for Criminal Offence as Malice! However, IMAGE is what every human watches in the morning while looking at the MIRROR, this can not be hidden. Just think about BNP Image and brother Mirzafaki should see thyself;

1. BNP was created inside Garrison by the most brutal person, a cold-blooded murderer, most beneficiary in barbaric and brutal killing of Bangabandhu, his loving family members, little child Rasel, four national heroes and leaders of our liberation struggle and thousands of soldiers & officers of Bangladesh Armed Forces. IMAGING of BNP is not, therefore a political party rather it is a platform of mostly greedy, corrupts, anti-liberation forces and believing Pakistani philosophy of so called Islam.

2. Ziaur Rahman, a recruit from West Pakistan had been mostly serving in Pakistan Army Intelligence, he was a professional Spy, who devoted his life till last breath for the interest of Pakistan & their friends, ziaur joining in Freedom Struggle was a 5th column program which is a normal spy practice, no wonder Ms. Khaleda remain comfortable with Paki Military friends instead taking shelter with Freedom Fighters as she knew that her husband was accomplishing spy assignment to restore united Pakistan. Her IMAGING truly focused when Ziaur Rahman felt disgusted to accept her as wife due to his positioning in Armed Forces. There are stories, Ziaur could not even tolerate when other officers were enjoying, laughing in the part with their wives.

3. Upon barbaric killing of Bangabandhu, Ziaur Rahman played the trick with Khondoker Mushtaque to push him in front as advised by his Paki Masters and in good time he became President and Chief Martial Law Administrator and later set a new Political Party with bunch of crooked persons from amongst corrupt communists, businessmen, old muslim leaguers and members of all anti-liberation forces. All his moves were camouflaged for his concocted role in Freedom Struggle but countrys’ valiant patriots could identify this munafek [Traitors] IMAGING and retaliate killing him even destroying his body from the sacred soil of Bangladesh.

4. One of my very close military associates told me that Pakistan spent nearly Tk. 20 crore amongst soldiers and media including communists those of who were the key person in the then BTV program operation, made it a War Hero demise to create I of Ziaur and thereby IMAGING the anti-liberation forces. The then media persons, made the program truly Pakistani War time program with all Nazrul songs of spirit, a traditional practices in East Pakistan.

5. After the death of Ziaur Rahman, BNP remain in power, rather Armed Forces, a docile of Paki-replica supported this anti-liberation forces, Justice Sattar was the President and whose Govt. was thrown our for Corruption, Murder, misadministration, IMAGING of BNP was there for the World.

6. Story of HM Ershad was another episode, a repatriate corrupt, a Bishwma Behaya was enough for Pakistan to carry on and their local pimps, most strong group inside Bangladesh Armed Forces installed Ms. Khaleda, one time wife of a Lance-Corporal, married to Ziaur Rahman by force, had a brilliant Begum-Life inside Paki Garrison with her good friends, who had no education, no experience and proof of actual Birth! Full of false declaration which are Criminal offence] Pakistan gave a new IMAGING of BNP and Govt. by installing such a personality in poor Bangladesh.

The Govt. of BNP became true replica of Pakistani ISI planted body who promoted IMAGING of terrorism, corruptions, arms-smuggling, installation of War Criminals in Govt. machinery, most Freedom Fighters were taken out of Armed Forces, killers of Bangabandhu were installed as country’s Ambassadors, Member of the parliament. During this tenure due to their extreme poor IMAGING, even military officials could not stop Awami League coming to power!

8. Surprisingly, BNP had no grass-route workers or political bodies yet, Election Engineering placed them in the Govt. an IMAGING created election as fun and destroyed the respect of this institution and people yet to have confidence and thereby confused about the nature of Govt. when the tenure is finished for a term!

9. During the 2nd term of BNP Govt. the champs of Ms. Khaleda, all ku-putras, ill educated, cold blooded murderer like their father ? Ziaur Rahman organized a reign of Terror, Corruptions, Drugs, Illegal occupations, treating Armed Forces, Civil servants as their personal servants, most beautiful girls became victim of their sexual attention, people retaliate for this IMAGING and just became a Third Party opposition!

10. Civilized people in the world and inside Bangladesh have not forgotten the role of BNP Govt. and the IMAGING will certainly take a decade to completely remove from peoples’ mind. Bangle Bhai, Trucks of illegal Arms and Ammunition, 10% on every Govt. Tender, Killing people, judges, media persons, even political personalities like Ivy & others [Sheikh Hasina, UK Ambassador Anowar Chowdhury narrowly escaped], SM Kibria, Ahsanullah Master were killed by grenade & bullet attack and all were planned inside Ms. Khaleda’s son Tareks’ personal supervision/ Famous Haowa Bhaban” IMAGING will never be removed, those period was the nightmare for the nation.

11. Organized corruptions helped generating thousands of crores taka for Ms. Khaleda, her two sons, her bosom person Falu and many others in BNP but poor fellows like B.Chowdhury, Col. Oli, Mannan Bhuiya, Major Akhter, Tanvir Siddiqui, Nazmul Huda and many other honest personalities had to quit with so much of insult, It is heard that Tarek used to regularly insult Saifur Rahman on various financial matters and his personal conflict of interest! Who will for get Tareks’ Khambba where a single unit of electricity was not generated yet 12 thousand crore taka was spent for Khamba & power sector! Mirzafaki should clearly understand the IMAGING before he barks on IMAGE of Awami League, Sheikh Hasina or present Govt. of the people! Shahidul Alam

The five-year misrule of the BNP-Jamat alliance government did away with all the promises generated by the Awami League government. The situation in Bangladesh became grim both politically and economically. There was a phenomenal rise of terrorism.An assassination attempt was made on the Leader of the Opposition Sheikh Hasina on 21st August, 2004 ostensibly under government tutelage that resulted in the murder of 24 party leaders and workers, including a women leader Mrs. Ivy Rahman. BNP-Jamat Alliance and its criminal cronies killed 21,000 leaderss and workers of the Awami League including former Finance Minister and Member of Parliament, SAMS Kibria; labour leader and Member of Parliament, Ahsanullah Master; Advocate Monzurul Imam and Momtazuddin. Hundreds of thousands of Awami League supporters and members of the minority community became victims of political vengeance of the BNP-Jamat alliance.

Criminal syndicates were organized under the patronage of the infamous Hawa Bhaban combine. Thousands of women and girls became victims of rape. Teachers, students, journalists, intellectuals, women and children, businessmen – no group of people could escape the clutches of the fascist forces. People’s lives became absolutely insecure. With support from the government, extreme communal militancy was born and serial grenade and bomb attacks and murders turned Bangladesh into a haven of extremist terrorism. Meanwhile, extra-judicial killings became a norm, and the rule of law disappeared. Bangladesh was then being described as a failed state. 

During the five year rule of the BNP-Jamat alliance, prices of food and other essential commodities rose beyond the reach of the common people. Commodity prices increased by 100 to 200 percent. Inflation increased from 1.59 during Awami League rule to over 10 percent during the BNP-Jamat alliance government. On the other hand, the average growth rate of 5.6 percent achieved during the Awami League rule declined to 5.1 percent. Though the population increased by more than one crore, food production decreased to 2 crore 61 lakh tons from the 2 crore 68 1akh tons annually produced during Awami League rule. Poverty levels again increased to 45 percent and the population planning stagnated. Income disparity between the poor and the rich increased. During the last seven years, an additional one crore twenty lakh people slipped below the poverty line. Both domestic and foreign investment decreased. Though BNP-Jamat combine came to power on the slogan of jihad against corruption, criminalisation and corruption became the policy of the government. Under the leadership of the son of the Prime Minister, criminal godfathers became extremely influential. 

The Hawa Bhaban became a parallel centre of state power and the source of all corruption and militancy. The incredibly high levels of corruption and misuse of power by the Ministers of the BNP-Jamaat alliance; the members of Parliament and the leaders and workers of the alliance as well as a very politicised administration drove Bangladesh to the top of the list of the world's most corrupt nations, where it remained for five successive years. Governmental corruption, inefficiency and mismanagement led to failure in development. 

The power crisis became unbearable but the government failed to add a single megawatt of electricity to the national power grid during its entire five year term. In the power sector alone, Taka twenty thousand crore was misused or stolen. Due to the extreme shortfall in the production of power, education and agricultural sectors faced an acute crisis. When farmers took to the streets demanding uninterrupted power supply at Kansat, some twenty of them were shot and killed. An all-pervasive stagnation prevailed in the education, health, communication and women’s development sectors. The alliance government politicized the administration, police, armed forces, judiciary, universities, public service commission, and all other government and many non-governmental organizations. Hundreds of civil, military and police officers were dismissed from service or given forced retirement. At the same time, irregular appointments and promotion were given to corrupt and inefficient personnel who were party loyalists. Leakage of public service examination question papers became a norm to facilitate recruitment of party cadres. 

The constitution was amended and the retirement age of the judges of the appellate division of the Supreme Court was extended by two years with the ultimate objective of appointing a party loyalist who would then serve as the Chief Advisor of the Caretaker government. By appointing inefficient and corrupt people as judges, the prestige of the judiciary and its status as a bastion of fairness and justice were destroyed. BNP-Jamaat alliance government made the Parliament ineffective and destroyed all democratic institutions. The opposition members of Parliament were not allowed to speak, the permanent committees ceased to function effectively, and democratic practices were trampled under brute majority enjoyed by the then government. The Election Commission was turned into a loyalist organ and election engineering was resorted to so that the BNP-Jamaat alliance could win the election due in January 2007, and permanently enjoy power. Disregarding the constitution and the judgment of the Supreme Court, a voters list was prepared which added12.3 million fake voters. Three hundred party loyalists were appointed as Upazilla election officers. Stealing of people’s voting rights and election engineering were taken to such a level that the whole electoral process lost its credibility.

Caretaker Regime (October 2006-November 2008)

The BNP-Jamaat alliance government faced strong resistance from the public while trying to transfer power to loyalists. At the very end of their rule, they killed 70 leaders and workers of Awami League throughout the country. In its effort to come back to power, the BNP-Jamaat combine began implementing its blue print. Violating constitutional provisions Begum Zia’s puppet President lajuddin Ahmed formed a Caretaker government appointing himself as Chief Advisor. Chief Adviser Iajuddin could never rise above party interests and four of his Advisers resigned in protest against his indecision and duplicity. He failed to create conditions for a free and fair election and faced people’s resistance. At a critical juncture, on 11 January 2007, Emergency was declared in the country. Prof Iajuddin admitted his guilt and resigned from the position of Chief Advisor. With popular support, a new Caretaker government was formed under the leadership of Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed with behind the scene support of the armed forces. Under the Emergency political activities were banned for an indefinite period.

Meanwhile, the tenure of the present Caretaker government has crossed nearly two years. The government has been ruling the country with various limitations, weaknesses, lapses as well as some successes. This government has separated the judiciary from the executive, reformed the Election Commission, Public Service Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission etc. Another positive step taken by this government was the preparation of a voters' list with photograph. Our armed forces have earned people’s admiration for accomplishing this task with great efficiency. The caretaker government has also reformed the electoral laws and procedure.

In this context Bangladesh Awami League declares its election manifesto with the promise of change by making our dear motherland a country free from hunger and poverty, illiteracy, corruption and militancy. We believe that the right to vote and the right to food hold the key to the alleviation of poverty.

Summary: Corruption is the number one problem for Bangladesh. Transparency International in its annual report placed Bangladesh at the top of the list of most corrupt nations in the world. Certainly, it makes the politicians in Bangladesh, especially those in power, extremely uncomfortable and worried. It is apprehended that in the coming report of Transparency International, Bangladesh is going to be placed once again at the top. Although the ruling alliance in the country are making frantic bids in cleansing the image of Bangladesh, it is well understood that, international community are yet to be convinced to the fact that, Begum Khaleda Zia’s government is doing something in eliminating corruption from different section in the country. Only recently, an intelligence agency in the country identified 11 mid ranking officials with National Board of Revenue, who own 15 luxurious villas in countries port city of Chittagong, which costs US$ 2.5 million. It is important to mention here that, monthly salary of these officials is less than US$ 400 per month! Police and Customs (revenue) are the most corrupt departments in Bangladesh. Almost all the officers, on their retirement, emerge as multi-millionaire. They acquire wealth and properties in their own name of in the names of their spouses. It is almost an open secret in the country. Government also knows these facts, but is unable to take any action.

In recent days, names of some of the members of the BNP’s cabinet in Bangladesh come as the worst corrupts. They minted money like wild gambling. Sixty members of parliament rose complaint against a particular minister, while the Prime Minister Khaleda Zia did not take any action against him. It is also learnt that, many of the family members of Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia are becoming fabulously rich, by using state power. The most talked about corrupt figure in Bangladesh is Tareq Rahman, eldest son of the Prime Minister. TAREQ BECAME BILLIONAIRE JUST IN FEW YEARS, WHILE MANY OF HIS FRIENDS, WHO WERE PARTNERS IN HOMOSEXUAL ACTIVITIES OR IN THE ADDICTION OF PHENSIDYL ALSO BECAME VERY RICH UNDER THE DIRECT PATRONIZATION OF THE SON OF PM BEGUM KHALEDA ZIA.

Tareq has established Hawa Bhaban, which is although considered as one of the offices of the ruling party. There are solid evidences of this office’s involvement in interfering in almost all the business and contracts in the country. Hawa Bhaban palls are considered as the most influential figures in Bangladesh. One of the Hawa Bhaban palls is Giasuddin Mamun, who is tareq’s closest friend too. Hailing from an extreme poor family in the southern part of Bangladesh, Mamun is today one of the richest men in Bangladesh through various corruption, smuggling and many other forms of illegal activities.

Surprisingly one of the assistant press secretaries of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Touhidul Islam alias Ashik Islam is simultaneously working in the PMO as well in Hawa Bhaban as its spokesman. Moreover, this man is also involved with Tareq’s private television channel, Channel One. There are numerous allegations on Ashik’s involvement in a number of financial irregularities as well of misappropriating state money with various excuses, government did not take any action against this man, as he is considered to be one of the closest aides of Tareq Rahman. In the PMO too, Ashik is known as an womanizer, alcoholic, bribe taker and blackmailer. Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was notified several times about this man’s illegal activities by country’s intelligence agencies. But, she could not take any action against Ashik, as Tareq always stood behind him with fullest support.

Khaleda’a own brother, Sayeed Iskander, who is a sacked major of Bangladesh army, also turned into multi-millionaire by using the influence of his sister. Sayeed runs a company named dandy Dying, which is a mere camouflage of his other activities. Behind the mask of Dandy Dying, Sayeed is involved in minting fabulous amount of cash through kick backs or other means; as well he is virtually active as the unseen defense advisor to the Prime Minister. No posting or promotion in the army is possible without his blessings or recommendations. Sayeed Iskander placed a number of his course-mates and even some of his close relatives in the sensitive and important positions in Bangladesh Army. A man with high political ambition, Sayeed is known to be one of the key conspirators in seizing power from Khaleda by using his grip in the armed forces. His ultimate goal is to become the future Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Khaleda’s late husband President Ziaur Rahman sacked Sayeed Iskander from Bangladesh Army for his alleged involvement in a number of corruption charges. Zia was one of the few honest figures in Bangladesh politics, who did not allow any of the members of his family to make money using state power. Not only that, Ziaur Rahman was the man, who did not interfere when both of his sons were ousted from St. Joseph School, which is considered one of the most prestigious schools in Dhaka. Zia’s sons were to leave this school because they turned to be duffers and extremely inattentive to their education. Tareq and his brother requested their daddy to readmit them in St. Joseph, when angry Ziaur Rahman said, “I am not in power to support inattentive sons of mine”.

The present government will finish its tenure this October. Meantime, names of most corrupt ministers are already coming in circulation, with figures of cash they minted during the five-year term of the BNP government since 2001. The corrupt ministers are:

Arafat Rahman Koko is currently being tried for corruption

The younger son of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Arafat Rahman Koko is currently being tried for corruption, false declaration of assets and money laundering. He is alleged to have taken bribes in connection with public works projects awarded by the Bangladesh government to Siemens AG, a German corporation, and China Harbor Engineering Company, a Chinese corporation. Other allegations include using his influence during his mother's term as Prime Minister to earn money illegally between 2004 and 2007.
On March 2007, documents from Koko's Navigations company headquarters were seized by the Bangladeshi Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Following the immediate freeze of all bank accounts by the National Board of Revenue (NBE) in April 2007, Koko was held for questioning but was later released.In addition to a graft case filed in October 2002, another graft case was filed against Koko in September of 2007 by the ACC for violating tender conditions in appointing a container-handling firm, Global Agro Trade (Private), and Company Limited (GATCO. Following his arrest, Koko was jailed, though bail was later granted on December 2, 2007.

In April 2008, the ACC sued Koko for concealing information of wealth and accumulation of illegal wealth, the charge sheet filed for illegal accumulation of wealth was filed in July of 2008, and the charge sheet file in the GATCO corruption case was filed in May 2008.

In December 2008, the unveiling of concealed information of foreign currencies deposited in a Singaporean bank prompted the United States to become involved. The U.S. Department of Justice is currently seeking a $3,000,000 forfeiture action against Koko for the accounts that are alleged to be the proceeds of the conspiracy bribe. The forfeiture action against the funds, held by multiple account holders, was filed in January 2009 in a US District Court. News articles citing statements from Bangladeshi Law Minister Shafique Ahmad that representatives from USDOJ and Fedous Ahmed from the United Kingdom's Institute of Management were assisting in investigations to recover stolen assets estimated as high as US $200,000,000.
In March 2009, the ACC again chose to charge Koko with money laundering. This case, filed under Money Laundering Prevention Act 2009, accuses Koko of laundering funds he had received in bribes to Singapore worth nearly US $932,000. The ACC will investigate the case and if found guilty, Koko may be sentenced up to seven years in jail. 
Currently Koko is receiving treatment at Bangkok on parole granted on July 19 2008 last year after he fell ill and was extended by one month until April 16, 2009.

প্রধানমন্ত্রী ও আওয়ামী লীগ সভাপতি শেখ হাসিনা বলেছেন, 'কিছু মানুষ আছেন, তারা বলেন- দেশের অবস্থা ভালো না। কেন ভালো না তা তারা বলতে পারেন না।' প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, 'আমরা গ্রামের মানুষের উন্নয়ন করছি। এটা তাদের ভালো লাগে না। এরা বিভিন্ন সরকারের সময়ই সুযোগ সুবিধা নিতে চায়। গ্রামের মানুষের উন্নয়নে তাদের পাওয়ায় বোধ হয় টান পড়ে। তাই তারা বলেন- দেশের অবস্থা ভালো না।' প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, 'তারা কি বিএনপি সরকারের সময়কার কথা ভুলে গেছেন? তখন প্রতিদিনই দেশে বোমা ফুটতো। ৬৩ জেলায় এক সঙ্গে বোমা ফুটেছিলো। বাংলা ভাইয়ের অত্যাচার-নির্যাতন বিশ্বে বাংলাদেশকে জঙ্গিবাদের দেশ হিসেবে পরিচিত করে তুলেছিলো। বাংলাদেশ এখন আর সেই জঙ্গিবাদের দেশ নেই। উন্নয়নের মডেল হিসেবে বাংলাদেশ পরিচয় লাভ করেছে।' শনিবার সকালে গণভবনে কুড়িগ্রাম জেলা আওয়ামী লীগের তৃণমূল নেতাদের সঙ্গে মতবিনিময়কালে তিনি এ কথা বলেন। প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, 'কিন্তু প্রতিদিন বোমা না ফাটলে বোধ হয় কিছু লোকের ভালো লাগে না। তাই তাদের মনে শান্তি নেই। মানুষ শান্তিতে থাকলে তারা অশান্তিতে থাকেন।' তিনি বলেন, 'বিএনপি আমলে যে অত্যাচার নির্যাতন হয়েছে সেটাও পত্রপত্রিকায় লেখা যেতো না। লিখলেই তাদের ওপর অত্যাচার-নির্যাতন নেমে আসতো। কিন্তু আমাদের সময় পত্রপত্রিকাগুলো স্বাধীনতা ভোগ করছে। সব কিছুই লিখতে পারছে। এমনকি ভুয়া তথ্য দিয়েও লেখালেখি হচ্ছে। এরপরও তারা বলছে- দেশের অবস্থা ভালো না। আসলে তারা মানুষের শান্তি চায় না।' 'আওয়ামী লীগের লক্ষ্য মানুষের অধিকার নিশ্চিত করা' মন্তব্য করে প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, 'অগণতান্ত্রিক কোন শক্তি যাতে আর জনগণের ক্ষমতা কেড়ে নিতে না পারে সংবিধান সংশোধন করে সে অধিকার নিশ্চিত করেছি।' তিনি আরো বলেন, "যারা ভালো দেখেন না, তারা চান না মানুষ একটু ভালো থাকুক। জনগণ স্বস্তিতে থাকুক। আমরা যখন গরিব মানুষকে দিচ্ছি, তখন তাদের যত হা-হুতাশ। গ্রামের মানুষের কোনো হা-হুতাশ নেই।" "মিডিয়া টক'শোতে এক চিত্র, আর গ্রামে গেলে আরেক চিত্র," যোগ করেন শেখ হাসিনা। 

সাম্প্রতিক সাংবাদিক নির্যাতনে সমালোচনার জবাবে তিনি বলেন, বিএনপি-জামায়াত নেতৃত্বাধীন চারদলীয় জোট সরকারের সময়ে ১৪ সাংবাদিক নিহত এবং ১ হাজার ৪০০ আহত হয়েছিল। "অনেক সাংবাদিককে চিরতরে পঙ্গু করে দেওয়া হয়েছে। অনেকে মামলা করতে পারেনি। আবার অনেকে নিজ এলাকাতেও থাকতে পারেনি। তখন পত্র-পত্রিকা আর ইলেকট্রনিক মিডিয়াতে সে খবর আসেনি।" বর্তমানে গণমাধ্যমের ওপর সরকারের কোনো নিয়ন্ত্রণ নেই জানিয়ে তিনি ইঙ্গিত করেছেন, এই স্বাধীনতার অপব্যবহারও হচ্ছে।"মিডিয়া এখন লিখছে। প্রতিদিন সরকারের বিরুদ্ধে না লিখেলে, তাদের পেটের ভাত হজম হয় না। সত্য, না মিথ্যা তা যাচাই করার দরকার নেই। তাদের লিখতেই হবে। আমি প্রতিদিন পত্রিকাগুলো দেখি। কিছু দাগ দিয়ে রাখি। সম্পূর্ণ ভুয়া নিউজ।" 

তৃণমূল নেতাদের প্রতি তার পরামর্শ- "অনেক কথা শুনবেন। কিন্তু, নিজের ওপর আত্মবিশ্বাস রাখবেন।" মতবিনিময় সভায় প্রারম্ভিক বক্তব্যে সমালোচকদের সমালোচনার পাশাপাশি সরকারের উন্নয়ন কার্যক্রমও তুলে ধরেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী। তিনি বলেন, "কেউ খেটে খেতে চাইলে এখন কাজের অভাব নেই। আমরা কাজ করার সুযোগ করে দিচ্ছি। দেশের একটি মানুষও গৃহহারা থাকবে না।" সরকারের অর্জনগুলো জনগণের মধ্যে তুলে ধরার জন্য তৃণমূল নেতাদের প্রতি আহ্বান জানান আওয়ামী লীগ প্রধান।  তিনি বলেন, "২০১২ সালের মধ্যে মধ্যম আয়ের দেশ হিসাবে আমরা আমাদের সুবর্ণজয়ন্তী পালন করতে পারব। এই বিশ্বাস আমরা আছে। আমরা এটা পারব।" "ষড়যন্ত্রের শিকার হয়েই আওয়ামী লীগ ২০০১ সালে ক্ষমতায় আসতে পারেনি। আওয়ামী লীগ গরিবের জন্য কাজ করে- তা অনেকের পছন্দ নয়। আওয়ামী লীগ তেলা মাথায় তেল ঢালতে পছন্দ করে না," বলেন শেখ হাসিনা।সভায় আওয়ামী লীগের সভাপতিম-লীর সদস্য মহীউদ্দীন খান আলমগীর, শেখ ফজলুল করিম সেলিম, আব্দুল লতিফ সিদ্দিকী, সাধারণ সাধারণ সম্পাদক সৈয়দ আশরাফুল ইসলাম, যুগ্ম সাধারণ সম্পাদক মাহাবুব-উল-আলম হানিফ, সংগঠনিক সম্পাদক খালিদ মাহমুদ চৌধুরী, উপ দপ্তর সম্পাদক মৃণাল কান্তি দাসও ছিলেন। এ সময় কুড়িগ্রাম জেলা আওয়ামী লীগের নেতারা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

Summary: Corruption is the number one problem for Bangladesh. Transparency International in its annual report placed Bangladesh at the top of the list of most corrupt nations in the world. Certainly, it makes the politicians in Bangladesh, especially those in power, extremely uncomfortable and worried. It is apprehended that in the coming report of Transparency International, Bangladesh is going to be placed once again at the top. Although the ruling alliance in the country are making frantic bids in cleansing the image of Bangladesh, it is well understood that, international community are yet to be convinced to the fact that, Begum Khaleda Zia’s government is doing something in eliminating corruption from different section in the country. Only recently, an intelligence agency in the country identified 11 mid ranking officials with National Board of Revenue, who own 15 luxurious villas in countries port city of Chittagong, which costs US$ 2.5 million. It is important to mention here that, monthly salary of these officials is less than US$ 400 per month! Police and Customs (revenue) are the most corrupt departments in Bangladesh. Almost all the officers, on their retirement, emerge as multi-millionaire. They acquire wealth and properties in their own name of in the names of their spouses. It is almost an open secret in the country. Government also knows these facts, but is unable to take any action.

In recent days, names of some of the members of the BNP’s cabinet in Bangladesh come as the worst corrupts. They minted money like wild gambling. Sixty members of parliament rose complaint against a particular minister, while the Prime Minister Khaleda Zia did not take any action against him. It is also learnt that, many of the family members of Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia are becoming fabulously rich, by using state power. The most talked about corrupt figure in Bangladesh is Tareq Rahman, eldest son of the Prime Minister. TAREQ BECAME BILLIONAIRE JUST IN FEW YEARS, WHILE MANY OF HIS FRIENDS, WHO WERE PARTNERS IN HOMOSEXUAL ACTIVITIES OR IN THE ADDICTION OF PHENSIDYL ALSO BECAME VERY RICH UNDER THE DIRECT PATRONIZATION OF THE SON OF PM BEGUM KHALEDA ZIA.

Tareq has established Hawa Bhaban, which is although considered as one of the offices of the ruling party. There are solid evidences of this office’s involvement in interfering in almost all the business and contracts in the country. Hawa Bhaban palls are considered as the most influential figures in Bangladesh. One of the Hawa Bhaban palls is Giasuddin Mamun, who is tareq’s closest friend too. Hailing from an extreme poor family in the southern part of Bangladesh, Mamun is today one of the richest men in Bangladesh through various corruption, smuggling and many other forms of illegal activities.

Surprisingly one of the assistant press secretaries of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Touhidul Islam alias Ashik Islam is simultaneously working in the PMO as well in Hawa Bhaban as its spokesman. Moreover, this man is also involved with Tareq’s private television channel, Channel One. There are numerous allegations on Ashik’s involvement in a number of financial irregularities as well of misappropriating state money with various excuses, government did not take any action against this man, as he is considered to be one of the closest aides of Tareq Rahman. In the PMO too, Ashik is known as an womanizer, alcoholic, bribe taker and blackmailer. Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was notified several times about this man’s illegal activities by country’s intelligence agencies. But, she could not take any action against Ashik, as Tareq always stood behind him with fullest support.

Khaleda’a own brother, Sayeed Iskander, who is a sacked major of Bangladesh army, also turned into multi-millionaire by using the influence of his sister. Sayeed runs a company named dandy Dying, which is a mere camouflage of his other activities. Behind the mask of Dandy Dying, Sayeed is involved in minting fabulous amount of cash through kick backs or other means; as well he is virtually active as the unseen defense advisor to the Prime Minister. No posting or promotion in the army is possible without his blessings or recommendations. Sayeed Iskander placed a number of his course-mates and even some of his close relatives in the sensitive and important positions in Bangladesh Army. A man with high political ambition, Sayeed is known to be one of the key conspirators in seizing power from Khaleda by using his grip in the armed forces. His ultimate goal is to become the future Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Khaleda’s late husband President Ziaur Rahman sacked Sayeed Iskander from Bangladesh Army for his alleged involvement in a number of corruption charges. Zia was one of the few honest figures in Bangladesh politics, who did not allow any of the members of his family to make money using state power. Not only that, Ziaur Rahman was the man, who did not interfere when both of his sons were ousted from St. Joseph School, which is considered one of the most prestigious schools in Dhaka. Zia’s sons were to leave this school because they turned to be duffers and extremely inattentive to their education. Tareq and his brother requested their daddy to readmit them in St. Joseph, when angry Ziaur Rahman said, “I am not in power to support inattentive sons of mine”.

The present government will finish its tenure this October. Meantime, names of most corrupt ministers are already coming in circulation, with figures of cash they minted during the five-year term of the BNP government since 2001. The corrupt ministers are:
